As the dark mornings draw in and the weather takes a turn we like to have a warm breakfast to start the day off. The kids loves Ready Brek, especially Jack. I think it’s important to start the day with a good breakfast and we usually go for cereals on a school day and maybe a treat at weekends. Cereals are really quick to make and Ready Brek is filling and gives long-lasting energy so I know they will last till lunch time.
Have you ever tried Ready Brek in your house? It’s super easy to make and much quicker than using proper porridge oats. It’s also smooth which suits the kids tastes. They hate anything lumpy or textured I even have to blend vegetable soup so they will eat it. Jack and Kaitlin can both make their own and often Jack makes a super size bowl and can never finish it. We need to work in his portion sizes.Ready Brek can be served plain or with a variety of toppings. We have tried lots of different toppings over the years. Some suggestions we have that we have tried and tested are below.
Sugar (the boys love a sprinkle of brown sugar)
Strawberries (or any berries)
We vary our toppings depending on what we have in the house. The kids do like the sugary topping like chocolate spread but I try to limit those and encourage more fruit or natural sugars like honey.Ready Brek is really simple to make, you can make it on the hob, in the microwave of like I do and heat the milk first then mix it in the porridge. It’s super quick and easy to make for a nice warm hearty breakfast before work and school. We very rarely have any dishes that aren’t empty like the one below when it’s porridge on the menu.
You can buy Ready Brek from all the big supermarkets priced around £2 for a box. There are so many thing you can use it for. Its suitable for children 6 months plus so this is a cereal for all the family. I am really looking forward to using it in a protein bar type recipe. Jack and Kaitlin love granola type snack bars. I will let you know how it turns out.
