Have you ever been to Lanzarote or any of the Canary Islands? The canaries is made up of several islands the main islands are (from largest to smallest) Tenerife, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro. Between our family we have visited the 4 largest. The canaries have great weather all year round so as well as being great in the summer they are fab in winter as well and our last trip to Lanzarote was at Christmas time and it was about 20 degrees the normal for that time of year being around 18 degrees. (Think we were just super lucky that year)
Lanzarote is a lovely place and we have stayed in two fantastic resorts Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca. Both resorts are great for families but Puerto Del Carmen also has a very lively nightlife scene. Lanzarote Holidays are great if you don’t fancy a 10 hour flight to get the weather all year round as the canaries are only about 4 hours from the UK.
Below is some information on the two resorts we have visited.
Playa Blanca
As a family we went over Christmas a few years ago and stayed in Playa Blanca. The resort is really nice and was easy to walk around. We walked up and down the front most days taking in the views, the beach and a few cocktails along the way. The kids loved playing in the sea and the beaches weren’t to crowded.
The nightlife is good and caters for lots of different ages. Some of the bars on the front served food earlier in the evening then transformed into really lively bars almost nightclub like. There was a fabulous Irish bar which had pool tables and evening entertainment and the kids loved to go there in the evening after food.
Playa Blanca has great boat links across to Fuerteventura. You can get a big ship or smaller tourist boats. It wasn’t expensive but I can’t remember what the exact cost is. We went with Kaitlin and Jack and its was great for a day trip out. We went to the beach had a walk round the town and bought some souvenirs to take home. Neil hates boats though so took the large ship home whilst we went on the smaller tourist boat. Its takes about 45 minutes to cross.
Puerto del Carmen
My mum and her partner go back to Puerto Del Carmen every year. It’s one of their favourite holiday places. They have been staying in the same apartments for the last few year called Barcarola Hotel. They always go self catering when away as they like to eat out and try different foods.
Through going back year after year they have a few recommendations:
Breakfast – A bar called Hot spot the staff are super friendly and they highly recommended the breakfast there.
Drinks – They recommended a bar called La Gruta, they serve amazing cocktails stay open till late and have super friendly staff.
Food – They recommend a little gastro type pub called Little elm. They eat there at least once every time they go.
Nightlife – Puerto Del Carmen can be really lively at night there are lots of places to eat and drink. Most places are family friendly so no issues with the kids having a god time as well.
We are hoping to get away again this Christmas and the canaries are top of our list as we know you get the weather and a bit of sun on your back all year round.
