It’s been a busy one that’s for sure. We decided when Neil’s alarm went off at 7am that I would take the boys plane spotting at Manchester Airport. Manchester airport has a great little pub with viewing area right at the end of the runway. The twins are obsessed with planes and trains so getting to see a plane up close and hear one was a real treat for them.
I had already done some research and knew they served pancakes for breakfast. We dropped Neil in Macclesfield and got there about 10am. The boys just thought we had gone for breakfast till a huge plane flew over our head. It was a massive one with two floors so you can imagine the noise it made. They couldn’t stop saying superwings mummy superwings.
We sat and had our breakfast which was delicious. The boys had pancakes and syrup and I had pancakes with bacon and Kaitlin had pancakes bacon and scrambled egg. It cost £27 for 3 coffee 1 hot chocolate 2 juices and all our food.
After eating we went out into the huge viewing garden which has a little park area and lots of picnic benches. The planes literally fly right over your head. We played and watched for about an hour till the boys were ready to go home
The planes flew over every 10 – 15 minutes so there wasn’t too long to wait in between each plane. The bigger planes do tend to take off earlier in the morning. If you want to see the big ones I would get there for about 10am, I know the likes of the Virgin and Emirates travelling trans Atlantic tend to leave between 9am and 11am but you could always have a look at departures and do some research if you really wanted to see a specific plane. The twins just wanted to see a plane so any airline made them happy.
Sometimes the planes taxi to the end of the run way and take off in front of you. This never happened to us and this is a video from You Tube I have seen before. I need to do some research for when this happens so I can take the boys with me. We only saw them fly over head today.
I can’t wait to go again and hopefully take Jack and Neil with us next time.
The Airport Pub is open from 9am to 11pm everyday and breakfast is served till I think it was 11.30am and they switch to a lunch/diner menu at 12pm. You have to pay for car parking which cost us £3 for 2 hours. The staff are super friendly and clearly used to families visiting. The lady who served us was amazing with the twins.
You don’t have to eat though you can just grab a coffee or beer and head out to the garden area and watch the planes. There were lots of families doing this so I know I can pop back any time and just grab a coffee while the boys have fun. I know we will be back several times over the summer holidays.
