This weekend we have been working with Prezzo and Brit Mums to try the new La Famiglia sharing bowls. We love pasta in our house so this was going to be a lovely review for us as we don’t often get to all eat together, let alone eat a meal we all like at the same time.
We chose to eat at the Media City branch near the Lowry at Salford Quays in Manchester. For us it was logistically better than trying the city centre with two 3 year olds. The restaurant is located over towards the tv studios and is surrounded by various other bars, restaurants and seating areas. It a great location in the summer for a relaxing meal and to then go and have a few cocktails and watch the kids run around.
We didn’t book a table and hoped it wouldn’t be busy. We arrived and there were a few other diners but it’s was reasonably quiet which is perfect for us when out with the twins. The server seated us immediately in a nice booth and we ordered some drinks.
As we already knew what food we were having we didn’t really study the menu but I have looked online and there is a nice selection to choose from. The waiter came across to confirm which la famiglia bowl we would like and also that we wanted the garlic bread. We chose the Penne Arrabiata (yes Neil didn’t realise it was spicy lol).
Two large garlic breads came and I was speechless at how good they tasted. I could have eaten a full one to myself. The boys loved it and had three slices each. Kaitlin commented how good it tasted and asked did it have onions in. Normally she would have turned her nose up but she didn’t she demolished it just like the boys. It’s the best garlic bread I have ever tasted so much so I tried to justify ordering another to take home with us.
After garlic bread our La Famiglia sharing bowl arrived. It’s designed for a family of 4 (2 adults 2 children) and the portion size was good. What we hadn’t realised, well what Neil hadn’t realised was that Penne Arrabiata is spicy and something clicked when the dish arrived with a roasted chilli on top. He thought it was just a tomato sauce. The kids don’t mind a little bit of spice but this was a little bit to spicy for the boys which was a shame as they tucked straight in before spitting it back out. Myself and Neil really enjoyed it though the flavours were really good. Kaitlin had a small bowl but again found it a little too spicy. So if your with kids who don’t like spicy I would avoid this one.
After pasta was desert time and we knew we had some ice cream to come but whilst waiting and deciding Euan managed to knock his full drink of orange juice all over Kaitlin. It was actually quite funny although Kaitlin didn’t see it like that at the time. The waiter was fabulous and provided lots of napkins and came back with a fresh juice straight away. Because Kaitlin was cold she decided to have a warm desert and picked the sticky toffee pudding with ice cream priced at £6
The boys settled on strawberry and chocolate ice creams and it was served in these super cute tea cups. The boys loved it. Kaitlin couldn’t wait to try the Sticky toffee pudding which came served warm and was a very good sized portion. I couldn’t resist pinching a few spoons and it was delicious.
