Neil has decided he is having a Menorca Weekend Away for 2 nights and 3 days with his friend. This is because I am having a weekend away in a muddy field for my sister’s birthday. Clearly I prefer the muddy field than a beach and sunshine (honestly). But jealousy aside he has managed to book flights and hotel for just over £300 for both of them. How amazing is that?
When I first met Neil we loved going on city breaks and little weekends away. Neil would check Sky Scanner, Expedia, Booking.com and places like that for any cheap deals. He always likes to book things separately rather than as a package deal from travel companies like Thomas Cook. We went to Belgium once for £39 each return and booked an amazing hotel for £150 for two night. I suppose the point I want to make is that there are some bargains out there you just have to look.
For this break he had a few dates in mind but wasn’t bothered in relation to destination. He used Sky Scanner to play around with dates and airports as we can access Manchester and Liverpool really easily. He then found some amazing return flights for £70 return each to Menorca,. Great flight times mean they arrive Friday lunch and leave late Sunday evening giving them nearly 3 whole days in the sun. The return home time is a little rubbish at 1.15am but still a great weekend away.
As he only uses Sky Scanner as a guide he likes to book flight direct on the airlines website rather than clicking through Sky Scanner. This can have its advantages like we experienced this time with the return flights costing £48.80 each return. Outbound flight is with Jet 2 and homeward bound with Thomson Airways.
Once the flights were booked the Menorca Weekend Away was on and it was onto finding accommodation and which resort to stay in. Menorca isn’t a lively island like Majorca and certainly doesn’t have a Magaluf type resort. It is great for families and couples wanting a relaxed holiday. This suited Neil and his friend as their requirements are beach, good food, sports bar and somewhere they can have cocktails.
I did some research into the resorts and came up Mahon the capital which is more like a city break as it has no beach but great nightlife or Cala’n Porter which is a lively beach resort. I have done some more research into Cala’n Porter and found some great bar recommendations so started the hotel hunt.
Unfortunately because it’s very last minute and only a few weeks away from the actual trip the choice is limited due to availability. There are some amazing adult only hotels though and I found some great Air bnb villas for families with pools at super reasonable prices. (I will be checking those out for a family trip)
After much deliberation and change of mind over resort location several times they have settled on IBB Paradis Blau, Cala’n Porter which has cost £209.43 for two nights in a twin room through Alpharooms.com. The hotel offers great facilities, pool, wifi, breakfast, bars and close to the beach.
That’s how we got a Menorca Weekend Away for £307.03 (£153.52 each). There are always great flight deals and accommodation you just have to be flexible with dates and locations. Now we have found that they have a cheap flight there regularly this is certainly a destination we will be looking in to again. A weekend away would be great for a family break with Kaitlin and Jack.
