Hope everyone enjoyed Christmas and you didn’t over spend. It’s very easy to get in debt at Christmas time trying to make everyone happy. You don’t need to though if you budget and save throughout the year. I am the worst at saving but I do have a few good money saving ideas that might help you. There are lots of different ways you can save money. Money boxes, bank accounts, savings clubs. Each one has its pros and cons.
You don’t just have to be saving for Christmas you could be saving for your dream holiday. Home improvements, house deposit or even your wedding. I hope some of these Money Saving Ideas will help you reach your goals.
Breakable Money Box
My favourite way to save money is a breakable money box. We use a large one to save £2 coins and also add in notes when we have spare money. Recently we broke our full one and it had £530 in which was a great chunk to our spending money for Las Vegas. We have now bought a new money box and started to save again.
365 Day Money Challenge
A great way to save for Christmas is the 365 money challenge. You can decide what you can afford and build it up every day. If you do the 1p increase this will all add up to over £671. A great way to save Christmas next year without even trying. What I think would motivate me more is starting with £3.65 and dropping it by a penny each day. I would see results quicker which would keep me on track and motivated to carry on. You can search 365 day money challenge in google and lots of websites with free downloadable tables will come up. This is great if you want to keep track of what you are saving. You also need to do this is in a breakable of sealed money box so you are not tempted to dip in it.
If your supper good at saving you could just move a set amount each month to another account or pop it in a money bank. I am rubbish at this and always end up moving it back. I have tried standing order to saving accounts, ISA’s you name it. The only one I can get to work and not dip in is the breakable money box.
There are lots of Christmas savings clubs out there that you can use. Just be careful that you go with a reputable company as it has hit the news before about them, going bust and people losing all there money. Do you research before committing. They can be a great way of saving though and many do vouchers so you can use these to go get shopping and gifts.
Saving stamps and Savings cards
Another great way to save is saving stamps or vouchers from supermarkets. This can be a great way to save for that big food shop throughout the year. We always save our reward vouchers like the £5 ones you get from Morrisons and our Tesco clubcard points. You will be surprised how quick they add up and the dates are always super long on them.
Another good way to build up some extra funds throughout the year is by using cashback websites like Top Cashback. I earned about £250 last year. We renewed our mobile phone contracts and did shopping throughout. Definitely worth registering for an account and always checking it before you buy online for the latest offers.
