I have started to experiment again with my slow cooker now the cold winter days are setting in. The kids love macaroni cheese but I have never made my own. I saw a recipe for the slow cooker so thought why not give it a try.
We decided to make it whilst decorating the Christmas tree as it needs to be stirred regularly. It takes about 2 hours to cook. Macaroni cheese is really simple to make and you only needs a few ingredients. You can make this as a main meal or a side dish to go with something else.
500g macaroni pasta (we used straight but you can get elbow shape as well)
1 Tin Evaporated milk
350ml Normal milk
- Add milk and cheese to slow cooker and mix together, add seasoning so a sprinkle of Salt and pepper to your taste.
- Add pasta and stir through the mixture to make sure all is coated.
- Cook on low for about 1 1/2 – 2 hours stirring regularly. Every cooker is different so it will depend on how hot yours gets.
- Make sure you stir regulary and you may need to add additional milk if it gets to thick.
We also found the pasts to be still a little chewy and think we will part cook our a little next time. This is purely dependant on taste I liked it with a bit of chew the kids prefer it totally soft and mushy.
