Lost child a parents worst nightmare
We had a quick visit to Drayton Manor last Thursday after dropping Neil off for a work conference, I went with Jack and the twins. The day would have been fantastic other than me having to report Jack as being a lost child.
We arrived about 10.45 and the rides were already in full swing the car park was reasonably full for a term time mid-week visit but no issues at all in parking. I decided to brave the park with no pram for the twins this time as it was going to be a short visit and they needed a good stretch after the car journey before travelling back home.
We went straight to Thomas land and agreed Jack could go on some of his rides once we had established a meeting point. We all stayed together and went on all the rides in the top part of Thomas Land near the Sodor Airport, before sitting down for some lunch. At this point I agreed Jack could go on the ride he had been constantly asking for and I would wait in the seating are with the twins for him to come back. No issues he was gone about 15 minutes and the twins had just finished their lunch so we cleaned everyone up and we were going to make our way on the train to the adventure park at the other side of the park, the twins had other ideas though and ran straight for the helicopters, Jack shouted something I turned my back and he was gone.
I wasn’t worried at first I knew he had run off to the rides, I wasn’t happy about it but I wasn’t worried. I tried to keep the twins occupied by going on different rides and kept looking for him coming back looking for us. I went over to the big rides we walked round and round looking for him but there was just no sign. I started to get worried then as I just couldn’t see him. The twins started to have a meltdown they were getting tired and restless, I had no pram and they are so hard to carry together now. An hour had passed and I needed help, I needed to find him so I knew were guest services was so I struggled with the twins and made my way there to report him as a lost child.
I walked in guest services Euan screaming to be put down, Edward’s feet were sore and he was tired and I just said I I need to repot a lost child I can’t find my son. Straight away they took his name, age what he was wearing, were I last saw him and within less than 2 minutes of me walking in the office they had put an all stations call out to look for him. The gentleman and lady then helped me with the twins providing some stickers as a distraction to keep them calm and settled for me and we made our way with the gentleman and his radio back towards Thomas Land where I knew he would go back to at some point looking for us. I could see security staff walking round and all the staff at the rides stations looking in the vicinity of their rides as well.
We walked round and then I saw him he had a terrified look on his face as he couldn’t find us just like I couldn’t find him. He was fine, my heart was beating out its chest I was struggling with the twins it was and extremely sunny and warm day I was just glad I had found him. When I said were they hell have you been he said the bumper cars there was no queue so I kept going back on them. The bumper cars was the one place I hadn’t checked but I know for next time check everywhere although I hope there will be no next time as we have discussed the importance of meeting points and times and how important it is to stick to those.
I could not thanks the staff enough for the quick response and help they provided, I felt silly having to go an say I have a lost child and ask for help as I knew he would be on a ride but nothing was too much trouble they helped walk the twins back to Thomas Land and they didn’t judge or question me other than to get those important details. The staff were excellent and I know should anything ever happen when we go again that the kids are extremely well looked after and I have spoken to Kaitlin and Jack about the importance of meeting points and that should anything happen they are to go straight to guest service or tell a member of staff they need help.
Drayton Manor you really have exceeded my expectations of a family attraction on this visit and I can’t wait to come back, not only did you provide such a great service when finding Jack whilst I was on my own with twins negotiating the rides the attendants on the rides couldn’t have been more helpful to us, they helped me get the twins on and off the rides and also strap them in safely seeing that I was on my own trying to juggle them and my rucksack. I am looking forward to having a less stressful trip just mummy and the boys in the next few weeks before the summer holidays start.
We have a Season Pass plus which allows us entry to the park as many times as we like till February 2017 I think they are extremely good value for money and you can just get up and go any day you choose like we did last week.
