This weekend we had the pleasure of trying out the recently refurbished Thomas Land at Drayton Manor Theme park near Tamworth Staffordshire. We had such a great time and can’t wait to go back another day with my older son as well.
We live in Manchester so Drayton Manor is about 1hr 45 mins away on a good journey which was just the perfect travel time with 2 year old twins in the car, so great location for us. The park is signposted as soon as you leave the motorway and there is loads of parking available when you arrive.
We made our way to the gates to collect our passes and the girls were super excited with the press badges they had to wear for the day, they felt really special and important. We had exclusive access along with many other bloggers for 1 hour before Thomas land was opened to the general public so this was perfect for us as the twins are only 2 and it is the first time they have been anywhere like this so you can imagine it was a bit daunting at first but they really enjoyed the rides, they were allowed on most rides along with and adult sitting with them but each ride has a height chart at the start of the queue so you can check before you enter the line avoiding any upset children being turned away when it is there turn.
There is a great selection of rides in Thomas Land and my 10 year old really enjoyed them just as much as the twins at aged 2 we also had our niece with us who is aged 7 and she thought it was fantastic as it was her first trip to a proper theme park and has already begged us to come again.
Myself, Neil and the twins went and spent some time in Emily’s Adventure (which is a great soft play area) whilst Kaitlin and Ella made their way around the rides on their own, Kaitlin is sensible enough and had a phone should she need to contact us, there is also lots and lots of staff located around the park all of which were extremely helpful whenever I spoke to them so we felt comfortable allowing them to explore.
Whilst we were at the park we had a chance to look at the VIP rooms which can be hired out for birthday parties or just a great family day out. There are 4 rooms to choose from and these are located in the Sodor Airport in Thomas land which also has a lovely coffee shop underneath and serves some really yummy cakes. Prices start at £250 and there are lots of optional extras you can add to make the day extra special for example a meet and greet with the Fat Controller himself for £25 every little Thomas fans dream come true. After and action packed morning of rides and soft play we decided to take some time out and have some lunch. We had thought about bringing a packed lunch but just didn’t have time to prepare one but it wasn’t an issue as the park had lost to offer Thomas Land itself had the lovely coffee shop at the Sodor airport serving paninis and toasted sandwiches along with cakes and coffee, there is also another café style shop in the center serving sausage rolls and pastries along with drinks crisps and snacks. The prices varied for a sandwich/pastry with a drink you would pay around £5.50 per person, they do sell a children lunch box at £3.95 which has sandwich roll, drink and a choice of fruits, crisps and other things which looked really reasonable. There are also other places to eat in and around Drayton Manor there is a Burger Kitchen, Pizza place and we saw a fish and chip shop too, all priced similarly and all serving a children’s option. We opted for 2 steak pies with gravy, sausage roll, 2 jacket potatoes with cheese and beans and a coffee and this came to around £23 and the pies and potatoes were a really god sized portion to. So no need to take a packed lunch as there is plenty to choose from and I don’t think the cost was unreasonable at all for the a theme park environment.
You can find more information regards eating and drinking on the Drayton Manor Website
After lunch the boys were worn out so we took a walk through the Zoo to look at all the animals they have for you to look at and learn about. The zoo has 15 acres of land and over 100 animals to look at once of my favorites was the black leopards they looked like giant cats, they have owls, monkey various birds and lots more to see. It’s great to break up the buzz and fast pace of the theme park making the day more enjoyable and giving you a chance to talk and have family time together.

We also visited the Dinosaur Trail and adventure park before heading back to the rides. The adventure park it fabulous it is huge so [plenty of space for lots of children to play they have several slide and climbing frames so no pushing and shoving by other children as there is plenty of space for everyone.
The facilities around the park were all in good clean condition we used the baby change at serval locations and all the toilets were clean and well stocked. They have cash machines on site there is a small charge of £1 but I would recommend you take cash as some of the food outlets were cash only on the day we went (looks like they are just waiting to have the cared machines installed fully. The staff are all amazing and there are shows and characters walking round Thomas Land making it even more special for the little one. As with any theme park they have several games dotted round prices vary but are in line with other parks so a £2-£4 per go to win a teddy bear.
Overall we had an amazing day at Thomas land and can’t wait to go back when the park fully opens on 12th march and try out some of the roller-coaster rides with Kaitlin and Jack, for us as a family of 6 with such a difference in ages this park is certainly a winner in our eyes because when fully open there is more than enough rides and things to do for the twins and Kaitlin and Jack and none of them have to compromise and we don’t have to leave either at home to have a day out we can all go together and all have fun as a family.
If you have little Thomas fans and want to go to the Thomas and Friends weekend we have just been to then you still have time to book tickets for this weekend 5th and 6th March just make your way over to the Drayton Manor website now and book online for the best prices.
