Wright’s Baking review of their bread and cake mix
Wright’s recently asked us would we like to try out some of the their bread and cake mixes and being a family who loves fresh bread and cake how could we say no.
Wright’s asked us to go to Wright’s website and have a look through there product range and choose what we would like to review. I was really suprised to see such a variety of breads and cakes to choose from.
As a family we settled on the Garlic and Rosemary Focaccia, Carrot Cake and Chocolate Fudge Cake. The bags came in a box and each bag contained 500g of mix. Bread mixes are £4.50 for a case of 5 and the cake mixes are £8.00 for a case of 5, you can also get some of the range from your local supermarkets.
Now onto the making, was it easy? Well I can honestly say if your someone who doesn’t like to bake from scratch but loves the fresh smell of cakes and bread in the house without all the hassle then these Wright’s mixes are certainly for you.
The first thing we tried was the bread, the instructions were easy to follow and they provide instructions for a bread maker as well as making by hand. We chose to divide the mixture into three as we knew the whole packet would be way to much for just me and Neil. It was simple to make and easy to bake and came out tasting great. (sorry no picture Neil had already eaten most of it before I could take one, that’s how nice it was)
The next bake was the Chocolate Fudge Cake and in true children style Kaitlin told me at tea time I need cakes for tomorrow at school, and I opened the cupboard thinking this is really not what I need to remember I had this in to review still, great and it really was quick and simple to prepare, a bowl a whisk, some water and a little oil that’s all it took. A good mix and pour into my greased tin and bake. I was a bit apprehensive as to how it would actually taste being that simple to prepare but I needn’t have worried. We cooled it off and sliced into squares and well the cake was so moist and tasty, I really didn’t want it going to school I wanted to eat it myself. It would have been even better with some melted chocolate over the top or served with a lovely warm vanilla custard. We have bought some more mix and have made this one again. Definitely a winner in this house.
Well the last of our review items was the Carrot cake and Neil and Jack love this so I let them bake it knowing it was really easy and they couldn’t go wrong as with the Chocolate cake it was a case of bowl, liquid and mix. We added some dried fruit for extra flavour but you don’t have to it was just our choice. The cake was really moist just what you would expect from a carrot cake and we decorated with some cream cheese frosting and chocolate carrots. Jack was very proud of his creation.
Wrights really have made some great products for you to bake at home yourself and still get that bakery quality. Each packet has clear instructions for various baking tins as well so no guessing on times. These are wonderful if you are not great at making cakes and breads from scratch or simply don’t have the time but want that home backed effect.
We would definitely recommend these mixes and we have the Toffee cake in the cupboard to try this weekend.
