We attended Winter Wonderland at Event City in Manchester which is next to Barton Square at the Trafford centre on Friday evening for the VIP open evening and what a great place for kids big and small there is a ride for them all.
This was our first year attending Winter Wonderland but this is there 3rd year at Event City and we had heard a mixture of feedback before going so we were keen to see for ourselves what it was all about.
Upon arrival you make your way through and you can see a glimpse of sparkle through the entrance as you make your way through to what can only be described a large holding hall in which you will find the cloakroom.
You then make your way through the entrance into Winter Wonderland itself. The actual venue is massive and the rides and stalls are well laid out so the walk ways are all wide enough for plenty of people to walk through so no issues with prams getting around (we have a double side by side and we had no issue at all).
Myself and Neil were unsure at first about taking the twins as we didn’t think it would be suitable but how wrong we were because they loved it there was loads of little rides suitable for them, the ones like you see at the seaside that have several cars and motorbikes and spin round, lots of those sorts of rides, they had bouncy castles, music, characters they knew they had a fantastic time. Kaitlin and Jack were also well entertained as round the edges all the larger rides were and these were brill and we didn’t need to go on with them which for us made life a lot easier and we could keep the twins happy on the smaller rides while Kaitlin and Jack went from ride to ride and we just worked our way along with them.
As well as all the rides there are loads of the seaside type stalls so hook a duck type games to play on and win prizes so make sure you take your purse as there are loads and you can’t really escape them.
Part of Winter Wonderland are the shows they have as well. There is a Circus show situated in the far corner and you can also see The Sooty show. Because it was night time we didn’t get chance to see these as we knew it would have been a bit much for the twins. We did catch a glimpse and they looked fab. We did however spend some time near the main stage which is central to the whole event and let the boys run around for a while whilst listening to a live band who sounded excellent and then the Ice princesses Anna and Elsa, the boys are massive Frozen fans so they loved this part.
Overall we had a fab night it wasn’t too busy but not sure how busy it would actually get on a normal session. We didn’t queue for any of the rides. The older kids were able to just do their own thing and pick and choose the rides as they wished. We could see them from all the smaller rides as we worked our way around. Great family night out for us. I would recommend this to other families who want that special day out in the run up to Christmas.
There are lots of places to get refreshments from, so tea’s coffee, and food and there is a German bar central to the wonderland near the main stage should you fancy a stronger tipple.
