Myths and Legends
This book in the words of jack aged 7 is “awesome mum”
The book is actually really good if you have children who like myths and legends, Jack certainly loves all stuff like that. The Miles Kelly website say recommended age 8+ but Jack is 7 and loves it but he does know little bits already so has found it really informative and has loved getting snuggled in bed at night and reading the stories with me and dad.
The book has 6 sections each section has about 20 stories and tales to it:
Gods and Spirits
Epic Heroes and Adventures
Magic and Mystery
Life and Love
Destruction and Death
There are over 500 pages in the book so you can imagine it is a big sturdy book crammed with lots of stories tales and information. At the back of the book is the glossary so you can search for specific gods, places, items. This will be good if you are doing homework and need to find information on something specific.
When we first sat down to read the book jack decided he wanted to look at the Life and Love section so we started at the beginning and it was all about stories of strength and it provided 2 pages of facts and then the story of Fenris the Wolf which includes Thor now Jack is a huge marvel fan so was fascinated by the story.
The second story we read which Jack had never heard of was The Sword in the Stone from Epic heroes and adventures section, he really liked this and asked lots and lots of question, I am not great at this stuff but luckily dad was hand to answer all his questions for him.
We have gone onto read some of the other tales/stories in the book and Jack is very inquisitive and asks lots of questions he has an amazing imagination and really puts himself into the story which I think is brilliant to see in your children.
This book is perfect for children to help with homework, children with great imaginations, or children like Jack who just like all these kind of things and want to learn more, they are like a sponge at this age so books like this I find are perfect to keep them stimulated and interested in reading.
The wording is appropriate it is written in a way children can understand, there is the odd word you may have to help them with but that’s what learning is all about. The book is presented well with lots of pictures in the right places not just for the sake of a picture.
I know we are going to have lots of fun reading this book and that Jack will enjoy it for years to come as it’s a book you can go back to again and again.
