Winter is coming and is only round the corner. I love making sure the kids have a good hearty breakfast before school but sometimes I am short on time. This recipe for slow cooked apple porridge is amazing and super simple. Its cooks overnight whilst you sleep and is ready to serve everyone when they wake.
You can add things like sultanas and cinnamon depending on you taste buds and what you family like. We like just the apple porridge and then adding things ourselves in the morning. I do sometimes add it before cooking though.
2.5 cups rolled oats
2lg cooking apples peeled and grated
1/2 cup sultanas(or raisins)
1-2 tsp cinnamon
7.5 cups water
Milk or Greek yoghurt
Brown sugar or honey
- Put all ingredients for porridge in slow cooker.
- Stir together and put lid on cooking on low overnight
- Stir before serving.
- Pour a little milk, or a dollop of yogurt, over each and sprinkle 1-2 tsp brown sugar or honey over top.
Cooking breakfast like this can be a huge time saver when you have 4 kids to sort in the morning. Our school run is already a very hectic time so anything to make my life easier I am willing to try.
