Do you struggle getting the kids to eat fruit and vegetables. Well this is a great fun idea to get them interested and want to eat more fruit.
I am lucky in some respect as Jack loves fruit he will eat a piece of fruit as a snack rather than crisps or biscuits. He loves that he can just help himself when he feels peckish. I like it though because I know it is healthy for him.
We always have fruit in our bowl our usual fruits are Bananas, apples, grapes, oranges and then we occasionally have strawberries and melon in as well.
I think it is important for kids to have lots of fruit and vegetable in there diet and sometimes as mums we have to be creative in how we serve them. I have developed many tricks over the years to vary the fruit and veg intake so its not just the same thing all the time. One good tip is vegetable soup blended you can add anything and would never know.
So onto making your own fruit kebabs.
What you need
Wooden kebabs skewers.
LOTS of different fruit that you like. Some examples – Bananas, Grapes, Strawberries, Pineapple, Apples, Cherries.
Chop your fruit into bite size pieces.
Taking one piece of fruit at a time slide it onto the kebab stick being careful as they are sharp.
You can then dip in chocolate if you wish or just demolish them which is what happens in this house.
You can make lots of fun fruit kebabs that resemble your favourite characters or to suit a certain theme. We made some like Dr Suess, Santa, even wicked witches.
They would make great centre pieces on a party table all you have to do is chop the kebab skewers to the right length and display like you would cheese and pineapple using a potato or something round you can stick them in.
Its time to go get creative do share with us what you have made.
